Job description

 

Sturgeon Valley Fertilizers Ltd. is an agricultural retail operation that has been refining its agronomy practices for over 50 years. We believe in supporting the community and have provided many students and recent graduates an opportunity to learn Agronomy through a hands-on, paid, internship program.

 

This position will open the door to a variety of agronomic practices. There will be a combination of working in an operations capacity as well as in field, agronomic services. This position will provide you with opportunities to meet with farmers, suppliers and industry veterans. In addition to the great job variety, SVF also provides students with the opportunity to partake in the Winfield Intern Academy. This program is designed to meet with other students, partake in agronomic activities and conclude with agronomy focused events.

Roles and Responsibilities

 

Yard Operations

  • Loading and unloading of fertilizer, chemical, and seed materials on-site

  • Operating fork-lifts and skid steers to transport product in the yard and in the warehouses

  • Loading products to customers

  • Liaise with drivers and customers on product accuracy

  • Transport small quantities of products out to farms

 

Agronomic Support

  • Assist senior agronomists in day-to-day operations

  • Scout fields to identify weed, crop stage and health

  • Conduct post-application field visits to determine efficacy

  • Conduct field diagnosis of crop problems including weeds, insects, and disease

  • Conduct plot work in season

  • Learn the process of making fertilizer blends

  • Learn understanding of crop protection products, fertilizer, and seed

  • Participate in staff agronomy training

  • Participate in the Winfield training academy

  • Meet with agronomists and customers to determine product needs

 

Must have a valid class 5 license

Must be legally eligible to work in Canada
